Blast!

I am told we can't get Tom Jones through Netflix and there is a large chance not at Blockbuster either. I will start checking on the availability before I post from now on!

July: Tom Jones

**I haven't watched June's movie yet...I will!!**

July's movie is the 1963 Best Picture Winner, Tom Jones. Tom, played by a young Albert Finney, is adopted into a squire's family and seems to be quite the lady's man. It sounds like the classic tale of poor loves rich and rich parents don't want the poor boy. We shall see though!! Enjoy!

June: A Letter to Three Wives

This movie was nominated in 1949 and is the story of three women who receive a letter from their "best friend" saying she is run off with one of their husbands, but she doesn't say who. There are a lot people in it, but the only one I recognize is Kirk Douglas. I really like him as an actor so I'm excited to watch this one!

BILLY!!!...WHAAAAT?!

I would say that our first movie was a success! The first time Billy opened her mouth I had to laugh...love the voice! And while Harry was really getting on my nerves with all of the yelling, I loved the interaction between them. It was neat to see Billy's character grow and change as she gained more confidence in herself. Although it made me quite aware at my lack of knowledge of American History. I think I have forgotten a lot of what I should know. Maybe that means I need to take a trip to D.C. to jog my memory! I love old movies and this one was very enjoyable!

Did you have a favorite part?

May: Born Yesterday

The movie for May is Born Yesterday which was nominated in 1950. Starring Judy Holliday, Broderick Crawford, and William Holden it is the story of a million dollar tycoon who hires a tutor to teach his lover proper etiquette. Once I watch it I will post about it and anyone who wants to can comment...Enjoy!

Welcome Movie Lovers

Welcome to my movie club!! I got this idea from my mom to watch all of the movies nominated for Best Picture but don't want to do it alone! I thought, why not start a movie club instead of a book club? Here's how it will work. We will do one movie a month (because I know some of you are busy!) and then we can chat about it on here. I will use a random number thing online to pick the movie every month. I was going to go in order but I thought we might get bored watching a bunch of old movies all in a row. You may have to use Netflix or Blockbuster.com because I don't know if you can find some of the really old ones in a store. There are, as of this year, 465 movies dating back to 1927!

I will give the title, rating, and synopsis of each movie to give you an idea if you want to participate that month. I know everyone has different standards regarding what they watch and I don't want to have you watch something that will offend you. I can tell you there are a couple I won't watch (Silence of the Lambs, A Clockwork Orange) because of things I have heard or seen. There will be no judgment from others for choosing to skip a movie and we are all entitled to our opinions and convictions. I want this to be a fun place to discuss the great movies of the past and present.

So grab some friends, some popcorn & candy and let's go to the movies!!
